presents
ART@John Strasberg Studios'
Summer Theater Acting Program |
| The Organic Creative Process taught at John Strasberg Studios is the first major change in acting training since the 1950's. While his work began in the tradition of the great teachers, Stanislavsky, his father Lee Strasberg, Stella Adler, and Sanford Meisner, it is a distinct departure from what these earlier generations of the realistic school, did. And, from what most teachers who are changing and adding techniques, do. They analyze acting, and plays, into their separate parts, with actions, objectives, emotions, substitutions, sense memories, etc. Some of it is brilliant. But, they teach us to think like actors, and that the creative process is a mechanical process. Whether or not they mean to do it, they teach that there is a recipe for creating a work of art. They forget that their systems and methods developed from observations of what great actors did, naturally. And, that the most important quality of life is its spontaneity, meaning that all acting techniques, and teaching, must help the actor to be able to be deeply personal, involved, and spontaneous, within the context of the character and play or film that he or she is focusing on. The Organic Creative Process is taught within scene work, so that there is no separation between the actor and the play. All acting techniques are based on the the Nine Natural Laws of Creativity, principles discovered by Mr. Strasberg. |
